Wilting Tomato - Update
I thought I'd take a few moments to update you on the status of the tomato that was wilting on June 24th. I had found that the main stem had a large brown dead patch on the stem, it appeared hollow. Since the rotted part occurred above an off shoot that was over 1 foot high, I actually simply cut off the part with the rotted stem. The remaining plant has continued to grow and flourish without any issues.

Wilting Tomato - Part 2
Well, today I checked on my wilted tomato plant and it still was wilted. Upon examining it closely I found that there was a part of the stem that had turned brown. The brown spot can actually be seen in the picture below. However, the brown rotted spot was above a smaller off shoot that was still green and not wilted. I decided to cut off the largest part of the tomato and see if the off shoot will produce flowers & fruits for me. When I touched the brown spot it was completely hollow like something had eaten it or it had rotted inside. Not sure exactly what that is but I'll spend some time looking on the net to see what happened to my tomato. Had a lot of rain today.

Wilting Tomato

This afternoon, I went out after work and started to trim and prune the potted plants on my deck and found that one of my tomato plants is wilting. Basically its wilting at the top leaves. In researching this on the internet, I've found both underwatering and overwatering as a cause,as well as a few soil bourne diseases such as Fusarium and Verticillium Wilts. As soon as I saw the wilted tomato, I watered it so I'm hopng that this time its due to underwater. My tomatoes are in pots so I would think they would tend to dry out faster than they would become waterlogged, and although we've had lots of rain this spring, the past few days have been sunny and clear. Today was a high of 82 degrees.

While outside on the deck tonight I pruned quite a few of the bottom leaves off the tomatos, so they have air circulation down toward the roots. I noticed a few plants have little tomatos forming on them. The fruits are forming on my "Sweet 100" Cherry tomato plants. I trimmed the blossoms off the cilantro, as I love to cut the fresh leaves for cooking, and I also trimmed up all the petunias so all the faded flowers that are or will go to seed have been removed. I pinch the ends of the variegated Ivy to encourage it to spread and get fuller. I gave the lobelia a hair cut and its rewarding me with tons of lovely blue blooms. Other than my wilted tomato, things are looking good out there.
