Thought for the day

"There are many tired gardeners but I've seldom met old gardeners. I know many elderly gardeners but the majority are young at heart. Gardening simply does not allow one to be mentally old, because too many hopes and dreams are yet to be realized. The one absolute of gardeners is faith. Regardless of how bad past gardens have been, every gardener believes that next year's will be better. It is easy to age when there is nothing to believe in, nothing to hope for; gardeners, however, simply refuse to grow up. Thomas Jefferson said once, "Though an old man, I am but a young gardener"."
- Allan Armitage

"In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt."
-Margaret Atwood

This year's plantings have taken on a very 'pastel' dreamy and very girly personality. This year I visited my local garden center, and came home with pink snapdragons, pale blue petunias, blue pansys. My planters are a mix of pale yellow petunias, light blue trailing lobelias and pink geraniums and variegated trailing ivy. I've done 3 pots in this yellow, pale blue and pink color scheme. The deck, and two by the stairs up to the rose garden.

Today I planted 2 hanging baskets with fuschia. I was going to buy a potted trailing begonia for the deck but the plant was very large and I decided to pass on that.
Bought some perennials today, a lily of the valley to grow wild in and on the border of the woods, some hosta to edge the pathway in the front garden (will dig up 3 bushes that are not very pretty and not doing very well. Since bushes can get easily overgrown, I decided on the hosta in the place of the bushes.

Yesterday bought 5 large tomato plants as well as 2 small 4 pack beefsteak tomato plants.

The delphiniums planted last year look absolutely lovely. They are about 2 1/2 foot tall already. Amazing. I have never had such luck with my delphiniums. I think the only thing different is that they get sun only from morning until about noon or 1. No after noon sun. They are lush and tall and green. Will add picture.
